Name: Sword of St. Catherine

Forging: The Sword of St. Catherine, by its very nature, defies dating of its manufacture. It is a created weapon, created by God Himself. Whether the Sword actually touched the hands of the Saint it is named for, or whether it was simply placed under the church of St. Catherine-de-Fierbois, is unknown. And, it may never be known.

Blade: The Sword of St. Catherine’s blade appears to be unremarkable, consisting of a simple double-edged blade, composed of simple steel. The only decoration on the blade is a row of five crosses, going from about three inches above the crossguards to a length of ten inches, from the bottom of the first cross to the top of the fifth.

Crossguard: The crossguard is unremarkable, seeming to be, much like the blade, reminiscent of blades manufactured in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The exception is that the Sword of St. Catherine has the words, "Jhesus-Maria" engraved on one side of the guard. The words are French for "Jesus" and "Mary."

Hilt: The hilt is unremarkable being wrapped in leather, leading to a circular pommel cap.

Bonus: The Sword of St. Catherine’s combat bonuses are not known at this time, but considering Who created the weapon, the bonus is almost surely to be a +5, or perhaps even a +6 for to-hit and damage rolls.

Powers:

  1. Divine Power: The Sword of St. Catherine sometimes seems to have a contradictory nature when it comes to how powerful it really is. While it is known that the Sword does not register as high as the Swords of Destiny (scanning at about an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale, the Slayer Swords being a 10), the actual amount of magic the sword uses at any one time seems to depend on the opponent the wielder is facing.
Three examples are: One theory is that the sword only emits power as needed, utilizing only enough magic to defeat the opponent of the wielder.
  2. Blessing: Being a holy relic, it is unlikely that any being of a demonic nature could touch the Sword. Whereas a Disruptor weapon (such as Soulreaver) would emit a fixed charge, the Sword of St. Catherine would likely leave any vampire or demon charred to a crisp for daring to even graze the weapon. Souled vampires might be an unknown quantity in this regard, but thus far this possibility has not been tested.
