History: The bow was created by the Dwarven god Gorm Gulthyn and the Elven gods Corellon Larethian and Solonor Thelandira. The Bow was originally created to aid Shevarash in his war against the Drow but the bow was lost after his death. While Shevarash underwent apotheosis after his death and became a Demipower, the bow was lost for many centuries. The bow finally resurfaced and was claimed by Arrin Parkin after slaying the Hydras that guarded it and freeing it from it's imprisonment within an encasement of diamonds. How exactly the bow was imprisoned, by whom and how it got into the lair of the two Hydras was never revealed.
The bow sensed a kindred soul within Arrin and accepted him as his new owner. The bow itself is extremely intelligent and possesses a vast knowledge and can read it's owners mind at will. On the downside however it is very hard for the bow to transmit even the most basic thoughts to its owner. All the owner will receive are vague impressions of what the bow could mean and quite often frustration at the limited ability to communicate.
The bow is intelligent and basically a good weapon, but as it was created to protect the good races from their evil kin. The bow can not control it's owner, but it has limited influence on his emotional state. No matter what happens, the owner will always have strong prejudice against Drow and Duergar. The slightest offence from members of these races will enrage the owner dramatically and will normally attack the offender. But this is by no means a suicide clause. Indeed it seems that the bow calms the owner should it sense that the owner cannot possibly win.
There is no known way to destroy the Bow of Rainbow and the actual situation it was found in suggests that whomever imprisoned it, didn't find a way either. As long as his owner is alive the bow attempts to reach him actively, should someone try to take him away. This includes spontaneous, unexpected and for the illegitimate wielder often fatal teleportation's. For some reason there seems to be a rather low limit for teleportation range in this case. Therefore some people assume that the bow utilizes some power of its owner during the spell casting, though no side effects have ever been reported.
