Origin:
Jack first appeared in the Florida Everglades on March 15, 1993. His arrival followed a UFO sighting in the area, but no evidence was found of any extraterrestrial craft in the area. He has no recollection of who he is or how he came to be there. The only memories he possessed at the time were a fuzzy recollection of the name Jack, and a desire to hide. He was taken in by a DEA agent, Harry MacPherson, who found him wandering aimlessly near a methamphetamine lab.
At first, the Agent assumed Jack was merely another burnout case, however that all changed when he saw Jack change to his natural form for the first time. He realized he had taken in a new type of life form. He hesitated to reveal Jack’s secret to anyone for fear of the poor creature becoming a science experiment for the Government.
Instead, Harry used his resources and contacts to create a cover identity for Jack. Jack became Harry’s brother and the two became inseparable friends for the next year. Sadly, on April 17, 1994, Harry MacPherson was killed during a raid on a coke smuggling operation. Jack left Florida for New Mexico where he tried to start over.
He had been in Albuquerque for less than a week when an incident grabbed his attention, an Indian Shaman had raised a Vengeance Spirit to deal with a developer who had cheated his tribe. The spirit got loose and a group of people subdued it in a diner downtown. Jack saw the whole fight and he began to watch the group of people.
They turned out to be Team Albuquerque, a Bureau 13 team. They spotted him and took him in to ask a few pointed questions about why he was following them. Jack panicked at the thought of being detained by Government agents, he fought them. In less than five minutes, he subdued six highly trained operatives and made his escape.
Team Albuquerque was now very interested in Jack. They found out that bullets were ineffective against him, as well as the fact that he could evade most physical forms of attack by either changing his form to something impervious or by simply letting his body flow around the attack. They managed to slip a tracking device onto him during the fight and were able to track him down the following day.
They tried a different approach this time, they told Jack who they really were and asked him to join them. He accepted the offer. He was taken to the headquarters of the Bureau where he agreed to allow testing upon himself in an effort to learn just exactly what he was. After almost two years with no answer to that question, he went through the school for new agents and was assigned to a field team.
Team Armadillo became a new home for him. He became very good friends with the other team members, especially with the Team Captain, Terrance Otterman, a fellow orphan. Jack spent the next year happily working with the team all around the southwestern US. During this time Jack decided that he had been placed on Earth to defend Humanity. It became something of an obsession with him at times. He took it to extremes in defending his teammates.
In September of 1998, his team was attacked by Vampires in the mountains of Northern California. Jack and Terrance were the only survivors. They were rescued by Section 7 and they joined forces to hunt down the Vampires responsible for the attack. This lead to a battle against a Demon of the Second Circle in which Jack was nearly killed by a fire blast.
After the Fire blast, Jack began to recover some of his memories. He was torn emotionally by the difference in what he had been before he came to Earth, and what he was now. He took a leave of absence from the Bureau to work things out in his mind. As of May 1999 his whereabouts are unknown.
Description: Jack can appear as anyone or anything. His most common form is as a five foot, two inch tall, one hundred twenty pound white male. He has Blond, shoulder length hair, brown eyes, and a brown moustache. He is fond of changing his appearance to blend into the background of whatever area he is in. He is the ultimate master of disguise.
His personality is that of someone who is supremely confident in himself, at least on the outside. In reality, he is still unsure of his place in our world. He acutely feels the loneliness of being the only one of his kind in this reality. He also feels that he failed his friends, though that feeling is tempered a bit by the slow realization that there are some things beyond his control. He masks these feelings by being a bit of a joker, taking on the forms of Playboy Centerfolds to aggravate Terrance, for example.
Abilities (Uncommon): Jack is able to change into almost anyone or anything. He has control of his form down to the molecular level. As a rule of thumb, he tries not to become objects more than four times his normal size or mass, they require large expenditures of energy to form. Also, he cannot become functional machinery, he can look like a refrigerator, but not act as one. He has to rest or regenerate in his natural form, a gray, Jell-O like substance, for at least four out of every twenty-four hours. This time can increase due to multiple changes, or changes to extremely large or small objects.
Abilities (Learned): Jack has been trained by Bureau 13 in weapons, surveillance, driving, hand to hand combat, forgery, and evidence collection. In addition, Jack has great skill as an actor, were he human, he would be almost as good as a Pretender. He has also picked up some fair knowledge of computers, general law enforcement, and wiretapping.
Current Status: Possibly immortal, no one knows the lifespan of a Changeling. Inactive Agent of Bureau 13. Whereabouts unknown as of May 1999, but reported to have been seen in San Francisco April 1999.
Current beliefs: As of May 1999, Jack has started to get an idea of who he is now. He has come to realize that he is not the evil J’ac of another universe, he is Jack MacPherson, the person (Yes, he is starting to accept that he really is a person of this world) who has lived an interesting life on Earth. He will probably go back to work part time for B13, but he feels he can do more as a lone operative right now.
What is the one most important thing you can say about the character?
Jack is a very interesting fellow. He is a confused soul looking for answers to his internal dilemma. Those answers will have to come from within and it’s going to be a wild ride until he gets them. Jack loves Humanity, he sees the embodiment of hope and kindness in many of us, but he sees the dark as well. He feels he has been brought here to aid in banishing the dark around us. He can do nothing for the dark within (Or so he thinks) but he is willing to try. He tries to cover his own insecurities with humor or anger, depending on the situation. He thinks Dirty Harry Callahan is a fine role model, BTW. (If Jack should end up spending time around Robin and Liam, I fear for Humanity. The pranks these three could dream up!)
